Mission

The M’Chigeeng Employment and Community Development Committee recognizes and will provide opportunities for the Band Membership of M’Chigeeng to develop, enhance and succeed in economic growth while promoting the continued social and spiritual development of M’Chigeeng.

The M’Chigeeng Employment and Community Development promote the cultural values and principles of the community membership through understanding and working together to realize the communities Goals and Objectives.

Mandate

To provide Economic, Employment and Community development services to the membership and administration of M’Chigeeng First Nation, by the provision of programs and services that will guide the economic development advancement for the community and membership

Goals & Objectives

M’Chigeeng First Nation Employment and Community Development Department has identified and adopted the following Goals and Objectives to assist and guide the economic development advancement for the community:

  1. to provide the community with economic development planning and identify funding to deliver community based economic services
  2. to provide business development services to guide and assist local entrepreneurs with existing and/or the establishment of new business start ups
  3. to maintain consistent contact and networking with local businesses
  4. to provide guidance and recommendations to Chief and Council
  5. to continue working on the planning, development and co-coordinating of band owned operated businesses and organizations with the intention of creating viable, self sufficient operations that can be turned over to the band membership, through outright ownership or lease agreements
  6. to receive direction from Chief and Council identifying training needs and further to provide the means to access training funds to complete the require d training
  7. to provide financial assistance to band and band member businesses by:
    1. Creating and administrating a small revolving loans fund
    2. Assisting in guaranteeing lines of credit with the band or other lending institutions
  8. to assist band members who wish to start up new businesses by:
    1. Providing counseling and advisory services
    2. Providing assistance in the preparation of financial statements and other business related documentation
    3. Assistance in the preparation and submission of applications and proposals to Government and Financial institutions
    4. Identifying and providing various workshops and training
  9. to assist in the coordination and implementation of strategies identified by band council and community groups
  10. to continue and seek out Joint Venture opportunities that will create large scale and training opportunities for band membership
  11. to identify funding to assist in maintaining and increasing the revolving loans program
  12. to manage and be responsible for all other programs and services that fall under the authority and responsibility of the Employment and Community Development Department

Economic Development

The Economic Development Program, is sponsored and funded by the Department of Indian Affairs, and is the economic development arm of the community. Staffed by an Economic Development Officer who is also the Department Manager, the Economic program provides the following services:

  • Small Business Start-up and development (new & existing)
  • Financial assistance and advisory services
  • Strategic Planning
  • Business Plan Development and Counseling
  • Community Infrastructure Proposals
  • Revolving Loan Fund
  • Local Community and Business Marketing
