Objective

The objective of the Job Opportunities program is to provide clients with job opportunities that will lead to continuing employment. Job Opportunities is designed to provide assistance in establishing a continuing employer/employee relationship by offering employers a contribution towards wages to hire selected clients. The employment experience should provide the client with the opportunity for skill utilization and for the eventual transfer of the clients to other positions within the employer’s operations or within the employer’s industry. Each proposal may include training and work mix.

Ineligible proposals include

  • Educational upgrading courses
  • Training already being funded through other programs
  • Training where there is high employee turnover resulting from substandard working conditions and/or non-competitive wage levels

Financial Assistance

  1. The maximum wage subsidy available to employees under this program is $10.00 per hour to a maximum of 40 hours per week for a maximum duration of 26 weeks.
  2. The maximum contribution for Mandatory Employment Related Costs, or benefits, is 8%.
  3. Training supports may be approved up to a maximum of $1,000.00.
      Training Supports include:
    1. Technical training program funding (i.e. Smart Serve, WHMIS)
    2. General business training (customer service, cash register operation)
    3. Professional services (implementing and training with an electronic accounting system, bookkeeping/accounting training and/or services, computer software training)
Overhead costs are not an eligible cost. All overhead costs are the responsibility of the employer.

Posting

All Job Opportunities will be posted within M’Chigeeng First Nation to ensure an equal opportunity for all band members.

Conditions

  1. The Job Opportunities program cannot be used to replace existing personnel.
  2. A “Letter of Intent” detailing the sponsor or employer’s intention to hire the trainee upon completion of the training must accompany the application or proposal.

Employer/Sponsors/Family

Employers/sponsors will not be allowed to hire immediate family. Immediate family shall include:

  • Spouse
  • A parent, grandchild
  • A son, daughter, brother or sister
