Objective
The Workplace-Based Training Program is designed to encourage employers to assume primary responsibility for effectively meeting changing skill needs in the workplace. This is done by assisting employers to meet their current of future skill needs through negotiated training contributions, retraining employees whose skills have been made redundant through technological or market changes and encouraging the provision of on-the-job training for employees who are members of the M’Chigeeng First Nation.
Eligible Sponsors (Employers)
- For-profit Employers:
- Incorporated or unincorporated partnerships and sole proprietorships
- Self-employed persons
- For-profit Band or Tribal Council corporations
- Non-profit Employers:
- Incorporated or unincorporated organizations
- First Nation governments
Ineligible Proposals
- General educational upgrading not prerequisite to the skill training
- Training for the purpose of obtaining a College Diploma or University Degree
- Orientation to employer’s procedures and practices
- Updating of salesperson’s knowledge
Duration
The Workplace-Based Training program can be used for up to 26 weeks.
Financial Assistance
- Trainer expenses may be approved up to, and not exceeding, $20 per participant training hour.
- The maximum wage subsidy available to employees under this program is $10.00 per hour to a maximum of 40 hours per week.
- The maximum contribution for Mandatory Employment Related Costs, or benefits, is 8%.
- Training supports may be approved up to a maximum of $1,000.00.
Overhead costs are NOT an eligible cost. All overhead costs are the responsibility of the employer.
Conditions
- The Workplace-Based Training program cannot be used to replace existing personnel.
- A “Letter of Intent” detailing the sponsor or employer’s intention to hire the trainee upon completion of the training program must accompany the application or proposal.
Employers/Sponsors/Family
Employers/sponsors will not be allowed to hire immediate family. Immediate family shall include:
- Spouse
- A parent, grandchild
- A son, daughter, brother or sister
