Secondary education programs offered in M’Chigeeng from these institutions:

  1. Manitoulin Secondary School
  2. Kenjgewin Teg High School
  3. M’Chigeeng Literacy & Basic Skills

An Ontario Secondary School Diploma consists of successful completion of 30 credits.

  • 4 English
  • 1 French or Ojibwe
  • 3 Mathematics
  • 2 Science
  • 1 Canadian History
  • 1 Canadian Geography
  • 1 Health and Physical Education
  • 1 Civics (1/2 credit)
  • 1 Career Studies (1/2 credit)
  • 1 Arts (Drama, Music, Visual Arts)
  • 1 additional English, Third Language, French, Social Science or Canadian & World Studies.
  • 1 additional Health and Physical Education, Business Studies or The Arts
  • 1 additional Grade 11 or 12 Science or Grade 9-12 Technology
  • 12 elective credits

In addition, students are required to:

  • pass the grade 10 literacy test or pass a Grade 12 Literacy course.
  • complete 40 hours of community service
  • develop and annual education plan

In 2007-08, the M’Chigeeng First Nation Secondary Education Program sponsored approximately 66 full time students attending Manitoulin Secondary School and 35 students enrolled in part time studies at Kenjgewin Teg Educational Institute or the Adult Education program.

In 2007-2008, MFN had 21 Ontario Secondary School graduates. The majority of these students have gone on to pursue post-secondary studies.
