The Community Support Program (CSP) is a community and family focused service to provide prevention, early intervention and support. The CSP accepts referrals from service providers, self and families.

The basic framework of these services will reduce the need for child protection mandated services and promote positive change by using the Anishinaabewin and contemporary approaches.

Services Include...

Family and Parent Education:

Programs designed to nurture the parent and provide alternative, appropriate, effective skills, and acknowledge for parenting and family relationships.

Family / Support Circles

Programs are designed to facilitate a process which will help parents/care-givers who are experiencing unresolved issues (i.e. – past or present abuse).

Life Skills/Cross Cultural Development:

Programs to assist children and parents/care-givers to learn alternative behaviours for various situations and be able to make valuable contributions in the community.

Community Education:

Education for the community or special groups to increase community awareness (i.e. teens, single parents, etc.) on various topics (i.e. personal safety, reporting abuse) which will help minimize the risk to children.

Social and Recreational Programs:

This program and services is currently decreasing in order to increase early intervention programs. Formally development and housing of community events which bring family members together for fun, relaxation, fitness and celebration.

Cultural (Anishinaabe) Awareness:

Native resources are to be incorporated into the program delivery.

Advocacy and Referral:

Community Support Services will ensure referrals will be completed for those children, youth and parents who require additional resources or services to Child and Family Services Workers.

The Community Support Program is funded by Kina Gbezhgomi Child and Family Services (Ministry of Children Services).
