APPLICATION INFO
It is the applicant’s responsibility to apply to the appropriate Application Centre by their deadline and ensure application is complete, primarily before you apply for MFN PS assistance. Applications will be required to complete the entire application at Ontario College Application Service OR Ontario Universities Application Centre (links below).
NOTE: M’CHIGEENG FIRST NATION EDUCATION DEPARTMENT will reimburse students for only the FIRST OCAS/OUAC fee, upon the submission of the receipt. OCAS and OUAC fees are paid ONE time for each individual per educational assistance application. Any additional OCAS and OUAC application/transfer fees, beyond the initial payment, will be the responsibility of the applicant.

The Post Secondary Counsellor will review your application to see which prioritized criterion you fall under and if your app is eligible, before determining what documents are needed. They will then send you a Check List of the Required Documentation needed for the processing of your application. Please review this list carefully. Your Post Secondary Counsellor will monitor your progress and upkeep your file with these documents. DO NOT DELAY in sending them in. If any documentation is missing you may find your education assistance suspended, until it is submitted. You will only be asked to provide the relevant items needed for your current application. (For example; if you are a C/R funded student, you would not be asked for a Letter of Acceptance if you are continuing in the same program as when you first applied.) If your application has been APPROVED, you will be sent an approval package email containing the approved copy of the Application for Education Assistance showing your approved education assistance budget, along with the duration of assistance. Approved and continued assistance is subject to you maintaining your eligibility. If your application is NOT approved or waitlisted, you will be sent a letter indicating the reason it was not approved/waitlisted. |
TYPES OF ASSISTANCE
MFN POST SECONDARY CAN PROVIDE Tuition AssistanceTuition support includes other compulsory student fees. Request for the fees for applications, tutorials, initial professional certification, and registration may be submitted with supporting documentation. Fees are approved after the Counselor has received a copy of the student's acceptance letter. Late registration charges will be deducted from the monthly student allowance if they are applied to the tuition invoice. Late registration fees are the responsibilities of the student.
Book AllowanceFull-time students will receive a basic amount of $600.00. Should the cost of books exceed the basic amount issued, the difference will be reimbursed provided original receipts are submitted to the education office.
Part-time students will receive $80.00 per course (provided original receipts are submitted to the education office.) Reimbursement for books purchased, will only be considered if receipts are submitted PRIOR to March 31st of the fiscal year. Special Equipment/SuppliesStudents who enter a program that require specific equipment/supplies may receive assistance for these items. Verification that equipment is mandatory is required from the program coordinator of the academic institution. The supplies/equipment will become property of the student upon successful completion of the program. If the student fails to complete the program, they must give back the purchased item or repay the MFN PS Education department for the purchase.
Stationary supplies are not included. (ie: binders, pens/pencils, notebooks.) Purchases of stationary items are the responsibility of the student. Special Needs for StudentsSpecial needs students must request approval for reduced course loads. Documentation required consists of an Assessment Report or Documentation
regarding recommended course load from the Special Needs Office of the institution. Residence FeesResidences require that the fees for the entire academic year be paid in full before moving into the residence. Mandatory meal plans may accompany the residence fees. Students opting to line in residence must make financial arrangements for monthly deductions from their student allowance to reimburse the MFN Education Department for the total residence/meal plan fees. The total fees must be paid with the academic year they reside in the residence.
Special Shelter/HousingTo qualify for this type of assistance the student must be enrolled in a full-time program.
Travel AssistanceRequest for travel assistance will be reviewed and granted on a financial basis. Full-Time Students: Two return trips are allowed under this program each year, but it is the student’s responsibility to apply for this need. In case of serious illness or death within the immediate family, compassionate travel will be provided to students. (immediate family for this policy shall mean; spouse, children, parents, grandparents, sisters or brothers.) |
