STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
- Once any student MFN member becomes eligible for MFN Post Secondary Education sponsorship, it is then their responsibility to adhere to MFN Education Department's Guidelines for eligibility and maintain the minimum standard.
- All students must maintain the minimum standard, as set by their Post Secondary institution: Each student’s progress will be reviewed at the end of the college semester or university year. If the student is not maintaining the academic standard, they will be put on Academic Probation.
- Students are responsible for their own registration and meeting important deadlines.
- It is essential that upon notification of approval for funding, students must arrange a personal 30-minute interview with the Post Secondary Counselor.
- Every student shares the same responsibility of remaining in contact with the Post Secondary Counsellor. It is ideal to maintain contact with your PS Counselor as often as you can to provide us with an update on how to better understand and help you with your academic future.
- It's the applicant’s responsibility to ask for current information, updated information or clarification regarding Post Secondary Education Assistance.
- It is imperative that students provide the Post Secondary Counselor with evidence of academic performance on request (ie. grades, mid term marks, transcripts etc.) Your support will be suspended if you are negligent with this request. If you continuously fail with providing evidence or obtain zero credits within those documents provided, sponsorship terminates.
- Students are responsible for BUDGETING their allowance so that it lasts for the entire month.
- It is the responsibility of every student to keep and provide original receipts for reimbursements on products/services.
- M'Chigeeng FN Education Department will reimburse only for the first OCAS/OUAC fee, upon the submission of the receipt. Any additional application or transfer fees beyond the initial payment will be the responsibility of the applicant.
- Late registration charges will be the responsibility of the students. Late registration will be deducted from the monthly student allowance if they are applied to the tuition invoice.
- Any loans students use to finance their educational endeavors is their own responsibility, MFN ED Department does not provide reimbursement for loans.
- Students are required to attend classes. An honor system will be encouraged but should the Students academic performance and other variables indicate otherwise, then a more rigid accountability system will be implemented.
- Students opting to live in residence must make financial arrangements for monthly deductions from their student allowance to reimburse the MFNED for the total residence/meal plan fees.
- Students must notify the Post Secondary Counselor when they go on placement and must provide a letter stating whether the placement is paid or unpaid. If it is a paid placement, the student will not be eligible for the post secondary monthly allowance.
- If a college expels or suspends you from your program, sponsorship terminates.
- If a university expels or suspends you from your program, sponsorship terminates.
- Should the student withdraw, quit or change programs:
- The student must complete the necessary withdrawal forms with the institution and immediately notify the M’Chigeeng Post Secondary Counselor.
- Any funds received after withdrawal or termination must be returned to the Education Office. Failure to return any funds will jeopardize future sponsorship.
- Students are expected to return the supplies/equipment to the M’Chigeeng First Nation Education Department or repay for the purchase of the equipment/supplies. Failure to do so will result in a debt owed to the M’Chigeeng First Nation.
It is the responsibility of the students to research funding sources, bursaries/scholarships/grants and find out about the services and opportunities that are available to them and that they are eligible for. Browse this site and those linked to explore more!
